Music

Rabbi Dr. David Harbater has been a chazzan/ba’al tefilla for his entire adult life. He has led the High Holiday services at Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York City, at the Beth David Synagogue in West Hartford, CT, at Congregation Sons of Israel in Allentown, PA, and at the Dekel Shul in his hometown of Efrat. He has led Shabbat services in synagogues all across the US and Israel.

Rabbi Harbater served as a regular ba’al keria (Torah reader) at Lincoln Square Synagogue, at the Jewish Center and Congregation Ohab Zedek, in NYC, and is an expert in Torah trop (cantillations), which he has taught to youth and adults alike. He also led a simcha band and released an album of original Jewish music.

Performing Carlebach’s Mimkomcha with my sister Laya

חייל ומפקד-Chayal u-Mefaked

This song was written by my wonderful and immensely talented sister, Laya Silber, in the wake of the Yom Kippur war. It resonates as powerfully now as it did then.

רני ושמחי
Roni
v’Simchi

These are the opening words of my bar-mitzvah haftara and they express the joy of the Jewish people and of my becoming an adult member of the Jewish community.

מנוחה ושמחה-Menucha v’Simcha

Of all the Zemirot (songs) of Shabbat, this is my favorite. My father used to sing it and it brings back fond memories of my childhood, and now I love singing it with my children.
